The brand was established in 1730 by Juan Famenias Floris and his wife Elizabeth, who began selling fragrances, combs, and shaving products from their premises at 89 Jermyn Street, London. This location remains the brand's flagship store and headquarters today.

The brand is renowned for its rich British heritage and holds a Royal Warrant as Perfumers to the British Monarch. Its manufacturing traditionally takes place in the United Kingdom, specifically at their own facility in Devon, ensuring that the legacy and quality of their heritage scents are maintained through local craftsmanship.

Unlike many historic perfume houses that have been acquired by large global conglomerates like LVMH or Coty, Floris London remains a family-run business. It is currently managed by the 8th and 9th generations of the Floris family, specifically the Bodenham family, who are direct descendants of the founders. This independent ownership allows the brand to maintain its niche luxury status and historical continuity.
