Trusopt, containing the active ingredient dorzolamide, is a well-established medication used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma or other ocular diseases. It was originally developed by the American pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. (known as MSD outside the United States and Canada). The brand has been a staple in ophthalmic care since its approval in the mid-1990s.
Over the years, the ownership and distribution rights for Trusopt have shifted through various corporate divestitures. While Merck was the original creator, many of its established ophthalmic products were acquired by Santen Pharmaceutical. Manufacturing takes place in multiple locations globally, including facilities in France and the United States, to serve international markets. Today, the brand remains under the stewardship of Santen, a specialized company focused exclusively on ophthalmology.
