Hot Wheels is an iconic American brand of die-cast toy cars introduced by the toy manufacturer Mattel in 1968. The Slingshot model featured in this packaging is part of the AcceleRacers series, a specialized line based on the animated film series that gained a massive cult following among collectors and children alike in the mid-2000s.
The brand was originally the brainchild of Elliot Handler, one of the co-founders of Mattel, who sought to create a line of toy cars that looked cooler and performed better than the competition. Over the decades, Hot Wheels has evolved from a children's toy into a global collector phenomenon with billions of cars produced.
While the brand is rooted in California, USA, the physical manufacturing of the majority of Hot Wheels die-cast vehicles has been based in Southeast Asia for several decades, primarily in Malaysia, with additional production facilities in Thailand and China.
