Emergen-C is a iconic brand of effervescent drink mixes designed to support immune health and energy. It was originally developed in 1978 by the Alacer Corp. under the leadership of Jay Patrick. The product gained widespread popularity for its signature high-dose Vitamin C formula and fizzing action when dissolved in water.
Over the decades, the brand transitioned from a niche health-food store item to a mainstream household staple. In 2012, Pfizer acquired Alacer Corp. to expand its consumer healthcare portfolio. Later, in 2019, Pfizer and GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) merged their consumer health businesses to form a joint venture. This venture eventually spun off as an independent company named Haleon in 2022. Today, Emergen-C is manufactured primarily in the United States and remains a flagship brand for Haleon, which is now one of the largest consumer healthcare companies globally.
