Discover where a brand or product originates
Founded in 2008 by Chris Xu, Shein began as an e-commerce platform originally known as ZZKKO. Initially focusing on wedding dresses, the brand quickly pivoted to general women's fashion and rebranded to 'Sheinside' before shortening its name to Shein in 2015. The brand is a pioneer of the 'ultra-fast fashion' model, utilizing a highly digitized supply chain that can bring products from design to production in as little as three days.
While the company has moved its headquarters to Singapore and expanded its global corporate presence, the vast majority of its manufacturing network is located in the Guangdong province of China, particularly in Panyu, Guangzhou. Shein utilizes a 'small batch' production system with thousands of third-party suppliers, allowing it to test new styles with minimal inventory risk and restock popular items almost instantly.
Today, Shein is owned by Roadget Business Pte. Ltd. based in Singapore. It has evolved from a small dropshipping business into one of the world's most valuable private fashion companies, operating in over 150 countries. The brand's success is attributed to its data-driven approach to fashion trends and its dominance on social media platforms.
