IGDB (Internet Game Database) is a comprehensive online social cataloging and metadata platform dedicated to the world of video games. Founded in 2012 by Christian Frithiof and Jerome Gauthier in Sweden, the platform was created to provide a structured, open-source-style repository for gaming information, covering everything from development credits to release dates across all hardware platforms.
In 2019, the platform was acquired by Twitch, a subsidiary of Amazon. Since then, IGDB has been integrated into the Twitch ecosystem, fueling its search and discovery features while maintaining a robust API for third-party developers. Although its roots are Swedish, it is now operated and maintained under the umbrella of its American parent companies, with its primary servers and technical management centered in the United States.
