KitKat is one of the world's most iconic chocolate brands, originally launched in the United Kingdom in 1935 as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp. The brand was renamed KitKat Chocolate Crisp in 1937 and eventually became known simply as KitKat. It is famous for its 'Have a break, have a KitKat' slogan and its unique four-finger wafer structure covered in chocolate.
Today, KitKat is produced globally in numerous factories to meet local demand. While the brand originated in York, UK, major production hubs now include Germany, UAE, Australia, and Japan, with specific flavor variations like Cookie Dough often reflecting regional market preferences.
Ownership of the brand is split geographically. Nestlé acquired Rowntree Mackintosh in 1988, becoming the global owner of the brand. However, in the United States, KitKat is manufactured and sold by The Hershey Company under a long-standing licensing agreement with Nestlé. In most other international markets, it remains a flagship product of the Swiss multinational Nestlé S.A.
