FRITZ!Box is a widely recognized brand of DSL, Cable, and Fiber routers developed by the German company AVM GmbH. Founded in 1986 in Berlin, AVM launched the first FRITZ!Box in 2004, revolutionizing the home networking market by combining a modem, router, and private branch exchange for telephony into a single device.
Unlike many electronic manufacturers that outsource production to Asia, AVM is known for its 'Made in Europe' philosophy. While some components are sourced globally, the final assembly and intensive quality control primarily take place in Germany and neighboring European countries like Poland. This regional focus allows the brand to maintain high security standards and rapid software deployment cycles.
In early 2024, the ownership structure of AVM shifted following a search for a strategic partner to ensure future growth. The European private equity firm Imker Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in the company, though the original founders remain involved as minority shareholders to preserve the brand’s core values and technical heritage.
