Voltaren is a globally recognized brand specializing in topical pain relief, famously known for its active ingredient, diclofenac. The brand was originally developed in Switzerland by the pharmaceutical giant Ciba-Geigy (which later became part of Novartis). The 'Emulgel' technology was a significant innovation, combining the cooling properties of a gel with the moisturizing effects of a cream to enhance the absorption of the medicine through the skin.
Over the decades, ownership of the consumer healthcare division of Novartis was transitioned into a joint venture with GSK, eventually leading to the creation of Haleon. Today, Voltaren is a flagship brand of Haleon, one of the world's largest independent consumer healthcare companies. While the brand has Swiss roots and significant production still occurs in Europe, Haleon operates a global supply chain to distribute Voltaren to markets across the world.
