Zipfer is a well-known Austrian beer brand that originates from the Zipf Brewery, founded in 1858 in Zipf, Upper Austria. The brand is recognized for its distinctive hop character and its status as a premium lager in the Central European market. Over more than a century and a half, the brewery evolved from a small local business to one of the country's leading beer brands, especially noted for its iconic 'Urtyp' variant.
Today, Zipfer is part of Brau Union Österreich, Austria's largest brewing group. Since 2003, Brau Union Österreich has been owned by the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. As a result, Zipfer retains its Austrian heritage and continues to be brewed mainly at its original location in Zipf, but ultimate ownership lies with Heineken, which is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
