Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. Holst had already found success with the Freia brand in Norway and sought to expand his chocolate empire into the Swedish market. The brand quickly became a household name in Scandinavia, known for its distinctive yellow packaging and smooth milk chocolate recipe.

Today, Marabou is owned by the American multinational snack and beverage giant Mondelēz International. While the brand maintains a strong production presence in Sweden, particularly at its factory in Upplands Väsby, many of the 'Big Taste' large-format bars—which feature complex layers of caramel and nuts—are produced in Mondelēz's specialized manufacturing facilities in Poland to distribute across the European market.

Despite the change in ownership and modernized production methods, Marabou remains a Royal Warrant Holder to the King of Sweden, symbolizing its continued cultural significance in its home country. However, under the ownership of Mondelēz, the brand has seen significant international distribution and the introduction of various flavor collaborations, such as the Japp-infused bar shown here.
