Mercedes-Benz is one of the world's most recognizable luxury automotive brands, with a history that traces back to the very invention of the internal combustion engine automobile by Karl Benz in 1886. The brand name itself was born from the 1926 merger of DMG (founded by Gottlieb Daimler) and Benz & Cie.
Today, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are manufactured on a global scale. While the heart of its engineering and its most high-end production remains in Germany (specifically Sindelfingen, Stuttgart, and Bremen), the company operates a vast network of assembly plants. Major manufacturing hubs are located in the United States, China, South Africa, Hungary, and Mexico to serve regional markets and optimize logistical efficiency.
Structurally, the brand has undergone significant corporate evolution. Previously part of the massive Daimler AG conglomerate (which included a heavy trucks division), the company spun off its trucking business in 2021. This led to the formation of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG, which now focuses primarily on premium passenger cars and vans, maintaining its position as a leader in automotive innovation and luxury.
