NIO ES8

The NIO ES8 is a full-size luxury electric SUV that serves as the flagship model for the Chinese automotive company NIO. Originally launched in 2017 and followed by a second-generation redesign, the vehicle is designed to compete in the high-end electric vehicle market by offering advanced technology, such as swappable batteries and the NOMI AI digital assistant.

Manufacturing of the ES8 has historically been centered in Hefei, China, notably through a strategic joint venture known as JAC-NIO. However, NIO has progressively focused on acquiring its own manufacturing assets and expanding its global footprint. The brand entered European markets, starting with Norway, to establish a foothold outside of East Asia.

NIO was founded by William Li and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company is known for its unique service ecosystem, including its Power Swap stations, which allow users to exchange depleted batteries for charged ones in a matter of minutes. As a publicly traded entity, NIO remains the ultimate owner of the brand, maintaining its headquarters in Shanghai while operating global design and R&D centers in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
