Jacobus Houbraken Portraits

Jacobus Houbraken (1698–1780) was a renowned Dutch engraver and printmaker from Amsterdam, famous for his exceptionally detailed portrait engravings of historical figures. His work is highly regarded for its precision and the 'noble' style of the subjects. The production of his prints was centered in Amsterdam, where he lived and worked throughout the 18th century.

Today, Houbraken’s works are not owned by a commercial brand but are held in trust by major cultural and educational institutions worldwide. Significant collections are preserved at the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. These institutions act as the primary conservators and authorities on his body of work, ensuring the historical legacy of his artistic output is maintained for academic and public study.
