Becel is a well-established brand specializing in heart-healthy margarines and vegetable-based spreads. Originally developed by Unilever in the 1960s to address concerns about dietary cholesterol, the name Becel is derived from 'Blood Cholesterol Lowering' (B-C-L).
In 2018, the brand underwent a major ownership shift when Unilever sold its global spreads division to the US-based private equity firm KKR & Co. Inc. This led to the formation of Upfield, which now operates as the ultimate owner of Becel globally. Manufacturing for the Nordic market, including products sold in Sweden, is primarily centered at the production facility in Helsingborg, Sweden, ensuring local supply chains for its dairy-free and plant-based alternatives.
