LU, which stands for Lefèvre-Utile, is an iconic French brand of biscuits that dates back to 1846. It was founded in Nantes, France, by Jean-Romain Lefèvre and Pauline-Isabelle Utile. The brand's signature 'Petit Écolier' (Little Schoolboy) biscuit, featuring a distinctive chocolate slab embossed with a schoolboy figure, has become a global classic.
While the brand remains deeply rooted in French culinary heritage, it has undergone several ownership changes over the decades. In the late 20th century, it was acquired by the Danone Group. However, in 2007, Danone sold its biscuits and cereal division to the American multinational conglomerate Kraft Foods. In 2012, Kraft Foods split into two companies, and the LU brand became part of Mondelēz International. Today, Mondelēz continues to oversee the global production and distribution of LU products, maintaining its status as a leading name in the European snacking market.
