Marantz is a prestigious name in high-end audio, founded in New York in 1953 by Saul Marantz. The brand quickly became synonymous with high-fidelity sound, though its ownership transitonned significantly over the following decades. In the late 1960s, it was sold to Superscope, and later, the brand's international and Japanese arms were acquired by Philips in 1980.
Technological development shifted heavily toward Japan during the Philips era. In 2002, Marantz Japan merged with Denon to form D&M Holdings. The SA-15S1 model shown is a product of this Japanese engineering excellence, designed to play high-resolution Super Audio CDs (SACDs). Since 2017, the brand has been under the ownership of Masimo Consumer, a subsidiary of the American medical technology firm Masimo, following their acquisition of Sound United.
