Mora is one of the most iconic snack brands in the Netherlands, famously founded by Marcel Mourmans in Maastricht in 1960. The name 'Mora' is a contraction of his family name, Mourmans, and his wife's maiden name, Ramaekers. The brand became a household name through its innovative marketing and high-quality deep-fried snacks, most notably its kroketten (croquettes) and frikandellen. Manufacturing primarily takes place in the Netherlands, with major production facilities in Maastricht and Tilburg.
Over the decades, the ownership of Mora has transitioned from a family-owned business to part of international food conglomerates. In 1995, it was acquired by Unilever. Later, in 2006, Unilever sold its frozen food division, including Mora, to the Eureko-owned venture which eventually led to the formation of Van Geloven. Since 2016, Van Geloven (and consequently Mora) has been under the majority ownership of McCain Foods, a Canadian global leader in the frozen food industry. Today, Mora operates as a leading brand within the Van Geloven portfolio, maintaining its Dutch heritage while benefiting from McCain's international distribution and resources.
