Nationale-Nederlanden (NN) is a historic financial institution with deep roots in the Netherlands, tracing its history back over 175 years to the mid-19th century. The company was formed through the 1963 merger of 'De Nederlanden van 1845' and 'De Nationale Levensverzekering-Bank'. As a financial services provider, its "manufacturing" or operational activities—including insurance underwriting, banking products, and investment management—are primarily centered in Europe and Japan through its extensive digital and physical infrastructure.
Currently, the brand is owned by NN Group, an independent international financial services company. While it was previously a subsidiary of ING Group following a 1991 merger, a series of strategic divestments and an initial public offering in 2014 allowed it to stand alone as a publicly traded entity on Euronext Amsterdam. Today, NN Group remains headquartered in The Hague and operates as a leading player in the retirement and insurance sectors across several international markets.
