Jumbo is a leading Dutch supermarket chain that originated from a grocery wholesale business founded by Jan Meurs in 1921. The brand was officially launched as a supermarket in 1979 in Tilburg. Since its inception, Jumbo has grown exponentially through organic expansion and strategic acquisitions of other retail chains such as Super de Boer, C1000, and Emté, eventually becoming the second-largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands.

The manufacturing of its private-label products takes place in multiple countries, depending on the specific food or non-food category, though many of its fresh products are sourced locally from Dutch suppliers. The brand remains family-owned, controlled by the Van Eerd family through Jumbo Groep Holding B.V., maintaining its headquarters in Veghel, Netherlands. In recent years, Jumbo has also expanded its operations internationally, establishing a presence in Belgium.
