Costa Coffee was founded in London in 1971 by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa. For several decades, it grew to become the largest coffeehouse chain in the United Kingdom and one of the largest globally. In 1995, the brand was acquired by Whitbread, which helped expand its presence significantly across international markets.
In early 2019, The Coca-Cola Company completed its acquisition of Costa Limited from Whitbread for $4.9 billion. This move placed the brand under the ownership of the American beverage giant. Today, while the beans are still roasted in their state-of-the-art facility in Basildon, United Kingdom, the product is serviced and distributed across multiple countries through various local partners and Coca-Cola's vast network. The coffee is sourced globally from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.
