Jaguar Land Rover, now officially known as JLR, is a premier British luxury automotive manufacturer with a storied heritage. The brand consists of two distinct lineages: Jaguar, founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, and Land Rover, which began with the iconic Series 1 in 1948. Both brands became synonymous with British engineering, with Jaguar focusing on high-performance sports cars and luxury sedans, while Land Rover defined the premium all-terrain SUV category.
Historically, the two brands were brought together under various owners including British Leyland and later Ford Motor Company. In 2008, the brands were acquired by the Indian conglomerate Tata Motors. Since this acquisition, JLR has expanded its global manufacturing footprint beyond its traditional UK heartland (Solihull, Castle Bromwich, and Halewood) to include state-of-the-art facilities in Slovakia, Brazil, and China to meet global demand. Despite its international ownership and production, JLR remains headquartered in the UK, maintaining its status as a cornerstone of British automotive design and innovation.
