Jozo is a Dutch legacy brand, specialized in high-quality salt products for culinary use. The name is derived from 'Jodium Zout' (Iodized Salt), highlighting its historical role in introducing nutrient-fortified salt to the market. The brand originated in the early 20th century under the Royal Dutch Salt Works (KNZ), a company that played a pivotal role in the Netherlands' industrial history by mining salt in cities like Boekelo and Hengelo. Today, Jozo is manufactured in the Netherlands, specifically in Hengelo, using vacuum salt extracted from underground layers formed millions of years ago.
Since its founding, the ownership has evolved through significant mergers involving AkzoNobel. As of 2018, the specialty chemicals division of AkzoNobel was rebranded as Nouryon. In 2021, Nouryon spun off its salt business into a dedicated company known as Nobian. Nobian is currently the ultimate owner and operator of the Jozo brand, maintaining a focus on sustainable production and essential mineral supply from its headquarters in Amersfoort, Netherlands.
