Hawaiian Tropic Tropical Tanning Oil

Hawaiian Tropic is a globally recognized sun care brand founded in 1969 by Ron Rice in Ormond Beach, Florida. Inspired by the traditional tanning methods used by native Hawaiians, Rice began mixing oils in a metal trash can at home, eventually creating a scent and formula that became synonymous with beach culture.

The brand has undergone several ownership changes over the decades. It was acquired by Playtex Products, Inc. in 2007, which was subsequently bought by Energizer Holdings. In 2015, Energizer spun off its personal care division to create Edgewell Personal Care, which currently owns and manages the brand. While the brand remains rooted in its American heritage, manufacturing occurs at various global facilities to meet international demand, though the primary production remains centered in the United States.
