Historically, the brand was developed and manufactured by the Dutch company Douwe Egberts. In the late 20th century, Douwe Egberts' tobacco division was acquired by the American Sara Lee Corporation, which later sold the brand to Imperial Brands (formerly Imperial Tobacco) in 1998.

Today, Drum is manufactured primarily in the Netherlands at Imperial Brands' facilities. The brand is managed as a core part of the portfolio of Imperial Brands PLC, a major British multinational tobacco company headquartered in Bristol, United Kingdom. The packaging shown includes multilingual health warnings (French, Dutch, and German) and a Belgian tobacco stop-line, indicating it is marketed for the Benelux region.
