Passendale cheese is a classic specialty from the heart of West Flanders, Belgium. The brand was originally created by the Donck family in 1932 within the village of Passendale. The cheese is renowned for its distinctive round shape and natural rind, which mimic a traditional loaf of farmers' bread. The manufacturing process is deeply rooted in local traditions, utilizing high-quality Belgian milk to create its characteristic soft, porous texture.
Today, the Passendale brand is part of the extensive portfolio of the Lactalis Group. Following the acquisition of the Belgian dairy company Fromagerie Passendale, Lactalis consolidated its presence in the specialty cheese market. While the brand maintains its artisanal heritage and continues to be produced primarily in Belgium to preserve its authentic flavor and regional certification, it benefits from the global distribution network and financial stability of its French parent company.
