Garfield is a worldwide comic strip phenomenon created by Jim Davis in 1978. The Garfield Pockets are a long-running series of small-format comic books, particularly popular in the Netherlands and Belgium, published by Uitgeverij Loeb and later others. The series features the humorous exploits of a lazy, lasagna-loving orange cat, his owner Jon Arbuckle, and the dog Odie. While the character was born in the United States, the localized comic book production often took place in the countries where they were distributed, such as the Netherlands. The intellectual property rights were managed by Davis's company, Paws, Inc., for decades until a major acquisition in 2019 by ViacomCBS (now Paramount Global).
