The brand originated in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, in 1976 when Wolfgang Schroeter started a small steel fabrication business. Since then, it has grown into a major global competitor in the luxury outdoor living market, known for its iconic Wave cooking grids and innovative infrared technology.

While Napoleon maintains a significant manufacturing footprint in Canada (specifically for its high-end Prestige and Prestige PRO series), it also operates a massive 1.5 million square foot manufacturing facility in China to produce components and mid-range series. The company remains a family-owned enterprise, with the Schroeter family retaining ultimate ownership and management through the parent company Wolf Steel Ltd.
