Gambrinus is one of the most iconic beer brands from the Czech Republic, a nation renowned for its deep-rooted brewing traditions. The brand was established in 1869 in Pilsen (Plzeň), taking its name from king Gambrinus, a legendary figure often celebrated as the patron saint of brewing. It became a staple of the Bohemian beer culture, known for its crisp pilsner style and high drinkability.

Historically, the brand was managed by the First Joint-Stock Brewery in Pilsen. Over the decades, it grew to become the best-selling beer in its home market. While its production remains centered in the Czech Republic, the brand's ownership has transitioned through several major global beverage groups in the modern era.

Since 2017, Gambrinus has been under the ultimate ownership of the Japanese multinational Asahi Group Holdings. This acquisition followed the divestment of several European assets by Anheuser-Busch InBev during their merger with SABMiller. Today, Gambrinus is managed locally under the Plzeňský Prazdroj subsidiary, ensuring that despite global ownership, the beer maintains its traditional Czech brewing standards.
