Napapijri was founded in 1987 in Aosta, Italy, by Giuliana Rosset, who reimagined travel bags with a focus on technical innovation and style. Despite its name (which refers to the Arctic Circle in Finnish) and the Norwegian flag logo, the brand is firmly Italian in its design heritage. It became famous for the Rainforest and Skidoo anoraks, which bridged the gap between technical expedition gear and urban street fashion.
Today, Napapijri is part of the extensive portfolio of VF Corporation, an American global apparel and footwear powerhouse. While the brand remains headquartered in Stabio, Switzerland, to maintain its European design roots, its manufacturing is distributed globally. Production typically takes place in countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Turkey, and Bangladesh. The brand is now a leader in sustainable fashion, having transitioned to sustainable insulation materials like Thermo-Fibre™ and focusing on circular economy initiatives.
