Duvel is a world-renowned Belgian Strong Golden Ale, famous for its distinct tulip-shaped glass and high carbonation. The brand's history dates back to 1871 when the Moortgat family founded their brewery in Puurs, Belgium. The beer itself was originally crafted following the end of World War I and was renamed 'Duvel' (meaning 'Devil' in Flemish) after a local tasting session where someone described it as a 'true devil' of a beer due to its high alcohol content and deceptive clarity.

Today, Duvel remains an independent, family-owned brand under the Duvel Moortgat brewery group. While the company has expanded globally by acquiring other craft breweries, the flagship Duvel beer is still primarily brewed at the original site in Breendonk, Belgium. The brewery uses a unique yeast strain sourced from Scotland and a complex, weeks-long maturation process to achieve its signature profile. The brand is a symbol of Belgian brewing heritage and continues to be led by the fourth generation of the Moortgat family.
