Brinta, which stands for Drink Ontbijt (Breakfast Drink), is a legendary Dutch breakfast brand founded in 1944. Originally developed during the scarcity of World War II by Frederik van den Hout in Groningen, it became a staple of the Dutch diet. The product is made from 100% whole wheat cereal and is celebrated for its nutritional value and ease of preparation when mixed with warm milk.
Over the decades, the brand transitioned from its original manufacturer, W.A. Scholten, to larger corporate entities. In the late 20th century, it was acquired by the H.J. Heinz Company. Following the global merger of Heinz and Kraft, the brand became part of the Kraft Heinz portfolio. Today, while it remains a quintessentially Dutch product manufactured in the local market, its ultimate ownership resides with the American multinational Kraft Heinz Company, headquartered in Chicago.
