Croma is a heritage Dutch brand specializing in baking and roasting products, first introduced in 1924 by De Nieuwe Margarinefabrieken in Rijswijk. Originally part of Calvé-Delft, it eventually became a staple brand within the Unilever portfolio. Historically known for its ability to brown meat quickly without splattering, it was originally made with animal fats but transitioned to a 97-98% vegetable oil-based formula to meet modern dietary preferences.

In 2017, as part of a major corporate restructuring, Unilever sold its global spreads division to the private equity firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts). This led to the formation of Upfield, which now serves as the ultimate owner and operator of Croma and other iconic margarine brands like Flora and Blue Band. While deeply rooted in Dutch culinary culture, production occurs across various facilities in Europe to serve the international market.
