SNCB/NMBS Belgian Rail Services

SNCB (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Belges), also known as NMBS in Dutch (Nationale Maatschappij der Belgische Spoorwegen), is the national railway operator of Belgium. Established as a public service, it manages the rolling stock and provides domestic and international rail transport for passengers within the Belgian network and bordering regions.

The service originated from the nationalization of private rail companies in Belgium during the 1920s to ensure a unified and efficient transport infrastructure. Today, it operates as a state-owned enterprise, with the Belgian federal government serving as the ultimate owner. While the brand is strictly Belgian in origin and primary operation, it coordinates with international partners such as Eurostar and Thalys to facilitate trans-border travel.
