KEF (Kent Engineering & Foundry) is a prestigious British manufacturer of high-fidelity audio products. Founded in 1961 by Raymond Cooke on the premises of Kent Engineering & Foundry, the brand gained international acclaim for its innovative use of materials and pioneering transducer technology, most notably the Uni-Q driver array which provides a more natural and expansive soundstage.
While the brand maintains its engineering roots and premium R&D facilities at its original birthplace in Maidstone, Kent, the majority of its manufacturing moved to Asia following its acquisition. Modern entry-level and mid-range products like the LSX and LS50 series are typically manufactured in China to meet global demand, whereas ultra-high-end flagship models, such as the Muon and Blade, continue to be hand-built in the United Kingdom.
Since 1992, KEF has been a cornerstone of the GP Industries portfolio. This ownership has allowed the brand to scale globally while maintaining its signature British acoustic engineering identity. Today, KEF remains a global leader in the premium audio space, blending traditional high-fidelity performance with modern wireless connectivity.
