Terry's Chocolate Orange is a quintessential British confectionery brand with a history dating back to 1767 in York, England. Originally created by the Terry's of York company, the famous orange-shaped chocolate with its unique 'whack and unwrap' design became a cultural icon. The 'Minis' version shown in the image provides the same orange-oil infused milk chocolate in pre-segmented, bite-sized pieces for convenient snacking.
Over the decades, the brand's ownership has transitioned through several multinational corporations. After being acquired by Kraft Foods (later Mondelez International), manufacturing was moved from the historic York factory to facilities in continental Europe. In 2016, the brand was acquired by Eurazeo and later became part of Carambar & Co. Today, while the brand maintains its British identity and heritage, the products are primarily manufactured in France.
The ultimate owner of the brand is currently the investment firm Eurazeo, through its subsidiary Carambar & Co. This transition has allowed the brand to expand its product line beyond the traditional chocolate orange ball into various formats like bars, sharing bags, and the 'Minis' segments seen here. The brand remains highly popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it is often associated with festive traditions.
