Borsec is one of the most prestigious mineral water brands in Romania, with a history dating back to 1806 when industrial bottling first began. The brand is often referred to by the title "Regina Apelor Minerale" (Queen of Mineral Waters), a distinction originally awarded by Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary due to the water's exceptional purity and therapeutic properties.
The water is sourced from the Borsec resort area in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, known for its unique microclimate and mineral-rich springs. The bottling process takes place directly at the source to ensure the natural carbon dioxide and mineral content remain intact. Despite being a centuries-old brand with deep historical roots, it has modernised its production facilities to meet international quality standards.
Today, the brand is owned and managed by Romaqua Group Borsec, a private Romanian-owned company that has become a leader in the domestic beverage market. While primarily focused on the Romanian market, Borsec is exported to various countries worldwide, maintaining its status as a symbol of Romanian natural heritage.
