Founded by Bob Moore and his wife Charlee in 1978, the company rose to prominence by using traditional quartz millstones to preserve the nutritional integrity of the grains. Based in Milwaukie, Oregon, the brand has become a staple for health-conscious consumers and those with dietary restrictions.
The company is unique in its corporate structure; in 2010, the founders began the process of transferring ownership to the employees. By 2020, Bob’s Red Mill became 100% employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This move ensured that the brand remained independent and locally operated in the United States, retaining its commitment to quality and heritage even after the passing of its founder in early 2024. Today, the brand continues to manufacture its products at its Oregon facilities while distributing them globally.
