Nolan is a prestigious Italian brand specialized in the production of motorcycle helmets. Founded in 1972 by Lander Nocchi, the brand's name is actually an acronym of the founder's name. Nolan established itself early on by utilizing Lexan, a polycarbonate material developed by General Electric, which offered superior protection and lighter weight compared to traditional materials of the time.
Unlike many competitors that have moved production to Asia, Nolan has maintained its manufacturing roots in Brembate di Sopra, Italy. This vertical integration allows the company to control the entire production process from raw materials to final assembly. In 2019, the Nolan Group, which also includes brands like X-lite and Grex, was acquired by the industrial investment group 2Ride GP, effectively merging it with other major safety brands such as Shark and Bering. This strategic ownership ensures Nolan remains a leader in head protection technology globally.
