It began with the establishment of the Nederlandsche Oliefabriek (NOF) in 1883 by Jacob van Marken, which merged with the French company Emmanuel Calvé & Cie in 1897 to form the Calvé-Delft company. This merger combined Dutch industrial expertise with French oil-refining heritage, leading to the creation of its internationally recognized identity.

The brand is most famous for its creamy peanut butter, which became a household staple in the Netherlands, but also produces a wide array of mayonnaise, salad dressings, and savory sauces. Today, Calvé is owned by Unilever, one of the world's largest consumer goods companies. While the brand has deep Dutch roots, its products are manufactured in various locations globally to serve different regional markets, though much of the production for the European market historically centered around the Netherlands and neighboring countries.
