Clipper Tea was founded in 1984 in Dorset, England, by Mike and Lorraine Brehme. The brand is pioneering for its commitment to natural, fair, and delicious products, becoming the UK's first Fairtrade tea brand. Their products are characteristically blended and packaged in the United Kingdom, specifically at their factory in Beaminster, Dorset.

In 2012, the brand was acquired by Royal Wessanen, a Dutch food company specializing in organic and healthy food products. Royal Wessanen subsequently rebranded as Ecotone in 2020. Today, Clipper remains a key brand within the Ecotone portfolio, maintaining its focus on organic, non-GM, and unbleached tea bags while operating under European corporate ownership.
