Wasa is the world's largest producer of crispbread, a brand founded in Skänninge, Sweden, in 1919 by Karl Edvard Lundström. The brand became an international staple, known for its healthy, high-fiber rye and wheat crackers. Originally known as Wasabröd, the name was shortened to Wasa over time.
Manufacturing primarily takes place in Filipstad, Sweden, and Celle, Germany, which are the main hubs for distribution across Europe and North America. In 1999, the brand was acquired from Novartis by the Barilla Group, a prominent Italian food company. Today, Wasa remains a core part of Barilla's health and wellness portfolio, operating as a subsidiary while maintaining its Swedish heritage.
