La Trappe Quadrupel is a renowned Trappist beer brewed within the walls of the Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven Abbey in Berkel-Enschot, Netherlands. Originally introduced in 1991, it was the first 'Quadrupel' style beer in the world, characterized by its deep amber color and complex, malty sweetness. As an authentic Trappist product, it carries the 'Authentic Trappist Product' logo, ensuring it is brewed by or under the supervision of monks, and that profits support the monastery and charitable causes.
The brand is owned by the Abbey (Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven), but it operates through a unique partnership with the Swinkels Family Brewers (formerly Bavaria). While the monks maintain ultimate control over the brewing process and the brand's Trappist integrity, Swinkels manages the commercial distribution and day-to-day brewery operations. This collaboration has allowed La Trappe to become a global symbol of Dutch brewing excellence while maintaining its monastic roots.
