Tcl Software Technology

Tcl (Tool Command Language) is a versatile, open-source scripting language originally created by John Ousterhout in 1988 while he was working at the University of California, Berkeley. It was designed to provide a common framework for building applications that need a powerful, yet easy-to-use control language. Over the decades, it has become famous for its association with the Tk graphical user interface (GUI) toolkit.

While the technology itself is open-source (released under a BSD-style license), its development has historically been supported by various corporate entities, including Sun Microsystems, Scriptics Corporation, and Interwoven. Today, it is primarily maintained by the Tcl Core Team, a community-driven group of developers, though commercial versions and support are provided by companies such as ActiveState and various cloud infrastructure providers.
