Carl M. Cohr Silverware

Carl M. Cohr (Atelier Cohr) began its journey in 1860 in Fredericia, Denmark, when Carl Madsen Cohr inherited his father’s goldsmith workshop. By the early 20th century, the company became the largest silver factory in Denmark, renowned for high-quality production of both silver and silver-plated goods. The mark visible in the image—a crown featuring three towers (the 'Three Towers' mark)—is a traditional Danish control mark certifying that the item is made of at least .826 silver, a standard used extensively until 1977.

Historically, manufacturing took place exclusively in Denmark, with many designs created by renowned artists and silversmiths. While the original factory in Fredericia closed in the late 1980s, the brand and its legacy remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide. The ownership of the brand name and specialized designs has transitioned through several acquisitions within the Nordic design industry, eventually falling under the umbrella of modern Scandinavian design groups that manage historical artisanal legacies.
