Lipton is one of the world's most recognizable tea brands, originally founded in Scotland by Sir Thomas Lipton in the late 19th century. Over more than 100 years, it evolved from a small grocery business into a global leader in both leaf tea and ready-to-drink beverages.
The Lipton Ice Tea range is managed through a long-standing strategic partnership known as Pepsi Lipton International. This joint venture between PepsiCo and Unilever combines Unilever's expertise in tea leaf sourcing and brand heritage with PepsiCo's world-class bottling and distribution networks. While the tea itself is sourced globally, the production of the canned and bottled beverages typically occurs in local or regional bottling plants to serve specific markets, such as Portugal in this case.
Ownership of the Lipton brand is split: while the dry tea leaf business was sold by Unilever to CVC Capital Partners (forming Liptea), the ready-to-drink portion seen here remains a key asset of the Pepsi-Unilever partnership. This ensures the product is widely available in restaurants and retailers across various continents.
