The Homann brand was founded by Fritz Homann in 1876 in Dissen, Germany, originally starting as a meat and sausage processing facility before expanding into margarines and delicatessen salads.

Today, the brand is part of the Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller based in Luxembourg, which acquired the company to expand its presence in the chilled food market. While most production historically took place in Dissen, the company underwent a major restructuring in the early 2020s, consolidating manufacturing to modern facilities in Germany and Poland to maintain its position as a market leader in the deli salad category.
