KitKat is one of the world's most iconic chocolate brands, originally created by Rowntree's in York, England, in 1935. Originally launched as Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp, it was later renamed KitKat in 1937. The product shown—KitKat White—features the signature crisp wafer layers coated in smooth white chocolate instead of the traditional milk chocolate.
In 1988, the Swiss multinational Nestlé acquired Rowntree's, taking global ownership of the brand. While Nestlé produces and distributes KitKat in almost all territories worldwide, a unique historical licensing agreement exists in the United States, where the brand is manufactured and marketed by The Hershey Company. Because of its massive global presence, KitKat is produced in numerous countries, including the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, and Japan, to meet local demand and sustainability standards.
