Sultana is a well-known snack brand with deep roots in the Netherlands. It was originally launched by the Dutch company Koninklijke Verkade (Verkade) in the early 20th century, specifically becoming famous for its fruit-filled biscuits that offered a healthier alternative to traditional cookies.
Over the decades, the brand's ownership has changed hands through several major corporate acquisitions. Verkade, and by extension the Sultana brand, was acquired by United Biscuits, which was later integrated into the global snacking giant pladis. Today, the brand is managed under the pladis umbrella, which is owned by the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding.
While Sultana products are synonymous with Dutch snack culture and primarily manufactured in the Netherlands (often at the Verkade facility in Zaandam), the brand is part of a massive international network that distributes various confectionery products across Europe and beyond. The Apple flavor remains one of the core variants in their fruit biscuit lineup.
