Violet Crumble is an iconic Australian chocolate bar consisting of a honeycomb toffee center coated in milk chocolate. Originally created by Abel Hoadley in 1913 in Melbourne, Australia, it is famous for its 'it shatters' slogan, referring to the unique brittle texture of its honeycomb compared to competitors. The brand name was inspired by Hoadley's favorite flower, the violet, combined with the descriptive word 'crumble'.
For many years, the brand was a cornerstone of the Rowntree's and later the Nestlé confectionery portfolios. In a significant move to return the brand to Australian hands, Robert Mencelle's Robern Menz (now known as Menz Confectionery) acquired the brand from Nestlé in 2018. Following the acquisition, production was moved to South Australia, where it continues to be manufactured today. The brand remains a beloved staple in Australia and is exported globally as a premium Australian treat.
